Kansas – Gregory Welch, an Army veteran who served for more than 20 years, tragically passed away in his apartment in Kansas.
He was 46 years old at the time of his death.
Welch, who was recruited into the Army at the age of 16, had been struggling with tuberculosis before his passing.
His sister, Raquel Rhodes, shared the heartbreaking news via a GoFundMe campaign to help cover burial costs.
She described their relationship as strained, stating, “We were fairly estranged, but he was still my brother.”
Rhodes expressed the deep emotional toll the loss has taken on her family, particularly on their mother.
“They say the greatest pain is for a mother to lose her child,” she wrote.
Gregory Welch’s death has left a void in the lives of those who knew him, particularly in the military community.
He is remembered as a dedicated soldier and a brother who will be missed despite their distance.
The fundraiser has already started to gather support, with donations pouring in to help the family with burial expenses.
